Evidence Based Practice Versus Research (Essay Sample) Content: Evidence Based Practice Versus ResearchInstitution:Date:Evidence-based PracticeFineout-Overholt E1 and Melnyk BM, (2011) defines Evidence-based practice (EBP) as a problem-solving health delivery approach that integrates best evidence and patient care data from knowledgeable clinical based studies with clinician expertise and patient preferences values(Fineout-Overholt and Melnyk, 2011).Oxford University Press defines research as the search for knowledge and establishment of contemporary facts. The difference is that while research establishes contemporary facts, EBP establishes peer reviewed evidence that are knowledgeable and updated. To describe the difference between research project that is EBP and that which is not, I carried out a search about pain management using CINHAL Plus with full text and google. I used the key words "nursing" and "evidence-based" in each database (Schmidt Brown, 2012).The results from CINHAL Plus were specific to the keywords specifie d. They were peer reviewed and used medical terminology that would be difficult for a lay person to understand. They were also from credible sources written by credential clinical authors. The results from Google brought up thousands of results many of which were not what I wanted and while others just gave abstracts rather than full texts.In a nursing research project, nurses can generate knowledge using evidence based materials. Nurses can find patient care related information from peer reviewed materials to help them create knowledge for their research projects based on relevant, valid and up to date evidence.
